When is a Fire Permit needed?

For lands in Mountain View County, outside of the Forest Protection Area, a Fire Permit is needed year round prior to instigating any type of burn on your property.

Why is a Fire Permit needed?

Fire Permit information is shared with our five Fire Departments to ensure that appropriate resources are dispatched to calls. Often, a controlled burn is reported by passing motorists which can result in unnecessary resources being dispatched and extra costs expended by the municipality. Fire Permits are a crucial component to managing these resources and the time of our valued firefighters.

How do I know if I am located in the Forest Protection Area?

If I am located in the Forest Protection Area, do I need a Fire Permit?

What should I do if I cannot obtain a fire permit online?

Please call our Main Office line at 403-335-3311 and we will be happy to process your permit over the phone for you or to assist you in gaining access to your account.

Once I have created my fire permit, what should I do?

Your permit is valid for thirty days. When you are prepared to burn you must call Toll-Free: 1-833-686-6555 to activate your permit so the Fire Department knows that your burn has commenced. No notification is required when you have completed!
